Green Circle Salons
Did you know that currently all aluminum foils and colour tubes are not being recycled and are sent to landfills? With our partnership with Green Circle Salons we take an environmentally responsible stand and ensure that all of our metals are properly recycled. This will help to reduce the need for more landfill space, decrease the amount of toxins going into our landfill sites, and help save the environment!
Did you know hair, when placed in garbage bags, will mummify, continue to fill our landfill, and give off methane gas? It’s exciting to know that hair can be used on our oceans to help in oil spill clean-up and recovery projects. In 2010 Green Circle sent over 1000 lbs. of hair to the Gulf of Mexico to help in the clean-up of the BP oil spill. At Shine we send all of our hair clippings to Vancouver to be used in oil spill clean-up.
Did you know that all excess chemicals including colour, perm solutions, and ammonia get rinsed down the sink and ultimately find their way into the water supply? This is the ugly truth of the industry. Our solution is to send all excess colour waste to a hazardous waste facility where they will be incinerated with other chemical wastes. The ensuing heat, that is created, generates new sources of energy! All this while stopping these chemicals from ending up in our community’s water supply. We are committed to doing what we can to save the environment
Shine believes in keeping our community and our earth a healthy beautiful place to live. The salon strives to be responsible for the impact it sets on our world. We focus on using products made from renewable, and sustainable, resources whenever possible. We use hair and skincare products that are paraben, sulfate free, and Vegan.

Carbon Neutral Benefit
In partnership with Offset Alliance, Green Circle Salons makes verified CO2e emission reductions on behalf of member salons. From the day Shine Hair Salon joined Green Circle Salons, they started measuring our salon’s annual estimated Scope 2 CO2e emissions (carbon emissions from electricity use), based on our salon’s size and location.
Green Circle Salons offsets Shines annual estimated Scope 2 emissions. This means they funded an equal amount of CO2e emission reductions on our behalf, through projects that are independently verified to be making measured reductions that meet the highest global climate action standards.
For calendar year 2022, collectively all Green Circle Salons members made a verified reduction of 13,168 metric tonnes of CO2e. That’s like taking 2,802 passenger cars off the road for an entire year!
